TRAVEL WARNINGS

Any university employee wishing to travel (either on their own, or with a student group) to a country under a US State Department Travel Warning must first submit a request with the International Travel Risk Management Committee.

 

1. Check for Travel Warnings

Issued by the U.S. Department of State, this is a high level of warning against travel to a particular country, due to multiple factors which might include:

  • Ongoing or intense crime/violence
  • Natural disaster
  • Civil war
  • Frequent terrorist attacks.

Check the US State Department/Bureau of Consular Affairs for the most up-to-date list of current Travel Warnings in your chosen destination:

2. Review JWU's Process

3. Request Approval

This form should be submitted prior to the purchase of flights and visas, preferably at least 3 months in advance of anticipated travel.

4. Await Approval

All university-sponsored travel to countries currently under a US Travel Warning must be approved by the Provost, or designee, after recommendation from the International Travel Risk Management Committee.

International Travel Risk Management Committee

The committee is a multi-departmental committee with a charge to manage international travel risk concerns on behalf of the university, comprised of the following Johnson & Wales University staff members:

  • Insurance & Property Risk Manager (co-chair)
  • Director of Study Abroad Programs (co-chair)
  • Provost, or designee
  • Executive Director of JWU Global
  • Chief Security Officer
  • Director of Emergency Management
  • Vice President of Human Resources, or designee
  • Vice President of Experiential Education & Career Services, or designee
  • Associate Dean of Counseling, Health & Wellness
